Cooling Off From The Inside Out
When the temperature outside keep going up, and I don’t want to keep turning my thermostat down, I cool off by eating and drinking cooling foods. Here are some simple things I do that you might like to try:
Add sliced cucumber to your water. Lemon and mint are also great for cooling.
Eat some of these great summer foods: apples, asparagus, bamboo shoots, bananas, barley, broccoli, cabbage, celery, chard, Chinese cabbage, grapefruit, kelp, lemon, lettuce, millet, mint, mung beans, pears, radish, salt seaweed, spirulina, tofu, tomato, watermelon.
Besides eating cooling foods, you might want to stay away from warming foods. Here are some foods to AVOID or limit when you want to stay cool: basil, black pepper, butter, capers, cardamom, cayenne, turnip, cherry, chestnut, cinnamon, clove, date, dill seed, garlic, ginger, fennel seed, kohlrabi, leek, mustard seed, nutmeg, brown sugar, onion, scallion, squash, vinegar, coriander, walnut, wine.
